New joint research project: ALTAI (Automa\u00adtic Language Trans\u00adla\u00adtion Using Artifi\u00adcial Intelligence)<\/h2>\n

On 1 June 2026, the joint research project ALTAI (Automa\u00adtic Language Trans\u00adla\u00adtion Using Artifi\u00adcial Intel\u00adli\u00adgence) of the DHSN<\/a> (Saxony Coope\u00adra\u00adtive State Univer\u00adsity) and pro et con will start.\"Logo<\/a><\/p>\n

Many compa\u00adnies world\u00adwide use outda\u00adted custom-built software (legacy), develo\u00adped in obsolete programming languages (such as COBOL, PL\/I, etc.). Legacy software is diffi\u00adcult to adapt to modern IT techno\u00adlo\u00adgies. Conse\u00adquently, many of these compa\u00adnies are planning to migrate their legacy software, which invol\u00adves conver\u00adting the program\u00admes into modern programming languages. Experi\u00adence shows that the strategy pursued by pro et con \u2013 a fully automa\u00adted migration \u2013 currently is the only practi\u00adcal way to migrate legacy software within a manageable project timeframe. However, develo\u00adping the mapping rules for programme trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion takes a considera\u00adble amount of time.<\/p>\n

For some time now, AI models have offered approa\u00adches to partial language conver\u00adsion; however, accor\u00adding to our research, these do not currently fully meet the extre\u00admely high demands of a software migration. This R&D project aims to explore the possi\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties and limita\u00adti\u00adons of AI-based software migration. The project is expec\u00adted to reveal the extent to which AI-based techno\u00adlo\u00adgies can usefully comple\u00adment and improve existing compi\u00ad\u00adler-based techno\u00adlo\u00adgies and tools.<\/p>\n

The research project is funded by the Federal Minis\u00adtry for Econo\u00admic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) as part of the programme Zentra\u00adles Innova\u00adti\u00adons\u00adpro\u00adgramm Mittel\u00adstand<\/a> (ZIM).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
